Located on Phetkasem Road, between Nang Thong and Bang Niang beaches, Smile Khaolak is an unpretentious restaurant featuring indoor and outdoor dining areas. Established in 2009, to the north of Khuk Khak Beach (right before you reach Pakarang Cape), Memories is more than a simple beach bar. Named in memory of the 2004 Tsunami, which entirely destroyed the first version of this establishment, Memories Beach Bar features a restaurant, bungalows, and a good range of activities like beach volleyball, Thai boxing lessons, Thai cooking classes, and surfing equipment and lessons. If dining with your toes in the sand is your idea of a great holiday, you’ll be very pleased with Lay Restaurant. Located right on Khuk Khak Beach, a short distance from Khao Lak Orchid Beach Resort, this shanty-like venue is famous for its extensive menu featuring both Thai and international fare, and for the large portions it serves at fair rates. Lay Restaurant also hosts a beach massage parlour and a laundry service.

Everyday Lazy House is a pleasant bar and restaurant located on Phetkasem Road in La On Village, right opposite Sensimar Khaolak Beachfront Resort. Featuring a very friendly atmosphere and excellent service, this restaurant serves a wide range of international and Thai favourites at reasonable rates. Dispensing Thai cooking classes during the day and unobtrusive live music (mostly ‘70s and ‘80s classics) performed by the bartender in the evening, Everyday Lazy House is definitely a recommendable venue.

As its name implies, Enzo Bistro Japanese Fusion brings other Asian flavours to Khao Lak. Run by Japanese Chef Toshi, the quality of the traditional and fusion dishes served here is second to none, as they are prepared with the best local and imported organic ingredients. This long-established restaurant (it was the first genuine Italian trattoria in Khao Lak) was originally located on Nang Thong Beach Road, but moved in June 2016 to a new location on Phetkasem Road, the main street in La On Village. Under Italian management, La Piccola Maria serves the best pizzas (baked in a wood-fired oven) in the region, as well as an excellent choice of Italian specialities, including gluten-free and kids’ menus. The atmosphere of the venue is pleasant, the service impeccable, the rates reasonable, and the food delicious; what else could we ask for?

Spinach is a nicely designed bamboo-and-thatch restaurant located on Phetkasem Road in La On Village. Featuring a lush garden and an open-sided dining area, this family-run restaurant is a really pleasant venue to sample a good range of reasonably-priced local favourites, including an excellent choice of fresh seafood and fish dishes. The atmosphere of Spinach Restaurant is friendly and has a strong local touch.

Opened in 2008, Hill Tribe Restaurant is located a good 10-minute walk from Bang Niang Market, off Phetkasem Road. Run by Khun San, a talented young chef from Chiang Rai, this restaurant has rapidly become one of the most popular venues in Khao Lak to those who appreciate northern Thai cuisine. Among the favourite dishes, you’ll find the delicious seafood hot plate, lemon chicken, and banana flower salad, to name just a few. As the name suggests, the restaurant is nicely decorated with northern hill tribe artefacts, and the service is excellent. Please note that reservation is recommended.

Orchid Café is a little gem of a Thai restaurant, located a few doors south from The Sands hotel’s driveway, on Phetkasem Road near the northern end of La On Village (it is right next to Doctor Chusak’s Clinic). Featuring an unpretentious setting, this family-run restaurant serves most of the Thai favourite dishes such as tamarind prawns, fried chicken with green mango salad, rock lobster, sweet and sour pork, and more, all at very affordable rates. Indoor and outdoor dining areas are available.
