The area known as Khao Lak starts from Khao Lak Beach itself in the south up to Baan Nam Khem at the entrance of Takua Pa Town to the north. Ben’s Restaurant is a very busy venue on Bang Niang Beach Road, some 80 metres after the intersection with Phetkasem Road. In an open-sided building with a corrugated metal roof, this unpretentious restaurant is one of the most popular places to go in Bang Niang if you want to feast on pizza. Other classic Italian dishes and Thai favourites are available here, and are also delectable, but the reputation of Ben’s Restaurant is mostly based on its wood-fired pizzas. The restaurant is so well attended that it’s advised to book beforehand if you do not want to queue.

Memories Beach Bar

Established in 2009, to the north of Khuk Khak Beach (right before you reach Pakarang Cape), Memories is more than a simple beach bar. Run by Khun San, a talented young chef from Chiang Rai, this restaurant has rapidly become one of the most popular venues in Khao Lak to those who appreciate northern Thai cuisine. Among the favourite dishes, you’ll find the delicious seafood hot plate, lemon chicken, and banana flower salad, to name just a few. This long-established restaurant (it was the first genuine Italian trattoria in Khao Lak) was originally located on Nang Thong Beach Road, but moved in June 2016 to a new location on Phetkasem Road, the main street in La On Village. Under Italian management, La Piccola Maria serves the best pizzas (baked in a wood-fired oven) in the region, as well as an excellent choice of Italian specialities, including gluten-free and kids’ menus. The atmosphere of the venue is pleasant, the service impeccable, the rates reasonable, and the food delicious; what else could we ask for?
