La On Village Restaurants & Dining

Where to Eat in La On Village

La On Village Restaurants & Dining

La On Village has many restaurants with a wide range of cuisines to choose from but it is certainly not a fine-dining destination.

This area is popular with Scandinavians, yet Scandinavian cuisine does not dominate although you can get your meatballs at the Viking Steakhouse and Pizzeria. Expect many middle-range restaurants serving mixed-nationality cuisine in an effort to keep everybody happy.

9 Restaurant & Bar

9 Restaurant & Bar

Modern looking and well fitted out, 9 Restaurant & Bar is a bit of a chameleon, serving breakfast lunch and dinner. It’s quiet, classy and large enough to enjoy a cut-above-the-rest dinner.

Opening Hours: 12:00 – 23:00
Location: Central La On
Cuisine: Thai/European
Discovery Café

Discovery Café

Is Discovery a restaurant or a bar? That’s for you to discover. Roadside and busy, it’s definitely a restaurant earlier on in the evening but morphs later on into quite a night spot – well at least by rather laid-back, less-than-nuclear Khao Lak standards.

Opening Hours: 08:00 – 24:00
Location: Central La On
Dragon Restaurant & Bar

Dragon Restaurant & Bar

Immensely popular with Scandinavian families, this bamboo-and-thatch affair offers cocktails, European and Thai food in a tried-and-trusted formula but one that has to be respected, given the number of clients it attracts.

Opening Hours: 12:00 – 23:00
Location: Central La On
Cuisine: Thai/European
Jao Seafood and Khao Lak Seafood

Jao Seafood and Khao Lak Seafood

Two side-by-side seafood outlets that are as broad as they are wide – in other words there’s not much difference between them when it comes to pricing, service and food quality. They say competition is healthy for business, and in this case it’s very true as both restaurants ensure that standards are kept high.

Opening Hours: 12:00 – 23:00
Location: Next to The Happy Snapper, Highway 4
Cuisine: Thai seafood
Kinnaree Bakery

Kinnaree Bakery

For good fresh sandwiches, patisseries, cakes or ice cream along with tea, coffee, or even beer, Kinnaree is a prime spot. Set back and raised from the road with a terrace and a well-lit interior, it’s hard not to believe that Kinnaree was purpose-built for people watching.

Opening Hours: 09:00 – 22:00
Location: Central La On
Cuisine: Bakery/patisserie
Kung Seafood

Kung Seafood

Busy most nights, this 40-cover restaurant offers both Thai and European fare at reasonable prices. Basic, but dependable.

Opening Hours: 12:00 – 23:00
Location: Central La On
Cuisine: Thai/European Seafood
Lamuan Seafood

Lamuan Seafood

Up a small flight of stone steps in the centre of La On you’ll find Lamuan seafood restaurant. Featuring a brick-and-tile décor, Lamuan delivers the goods and it is a busy place most nights. You can also eat breakfast and lunch here.

Opening Hours: 09:00 – 23:00
Location: Central La On
Cuisine: International and Thai seafood
La Piccola Maria

La Piccola Maria

This newly opened restaurant is handy for those staying at Khao Lak Seaview and Suwan Palm Resorts as it sits between them. An Italian-based menu (the chef is from Genoa) complements the fan-cooled interior and small terrace. Above the bar stands a TV showing sports events and there’s even free use of the restaurant’s laptop for those needing to surf the internet. Simple, but from the heart cooking.

Opening Hours: 12:00 – 23:00
Location: Nangthong Road
Cuisine: Italian-Thai
McDonald’s

McDonald’s

For those tired of all that fresher than fresh seafood and bored by healthy salads, Supersize-Me help is near in the form of McDonald’s. This branch is open 24/7, maybe to cater for the many truck drivers passing through.

Opening Hours: 24/7/365
Location: Central La On
Cuisine: None
O’Connor’s Irish Pub

O’Connor’s Irish Pub

Here’s a conundrum: a German-run Irish Pub in Thailand that serves Korean food. Still, Ralf, the owner and ex-tsunami volunteer, has a stock answer to such improbabilities – “Why not?” Strictly speaking, the Korean food is only served when there’s a barbecue going on and the pub has an admirable range of single malt whiskies and international draught beers as well as Thai and international dishes. O’Connor’s also has occasional live music, a friendly atmosphere, genuine décor and runs “chaotic but fun” Thai cooking classes.

Opening Hours: 10:00 – 24:00
Location: Northern La On opposite Chusak Clinic
Remarks: Cooking classes available
Tel: 085 784 9645
Ruen Mai

Ruen Mai

Ruen Mai features lots of polished wood, lovely green foliage, an iced ‘boat’ display out front, and a good, varied seafood-based menu. Discreet lighting helps this eatery along in the ambience department and there’s lots of space.

Opening Hours: 18:00 – 23:00
Location: By Ruen Mai Plaza, central la On
Cuisine: Seafood, Thai/international
Tiffy’s Restaurant

Tiffy’s Restaurant

Tiffy’s is a friendly, open-sided wooden restaurant popular with the many scuba divers in the area (and situated next door to a dive shop). Tiffy’s – named after the owner’s son – features Thai, German and English dishes – which is probably why the menu is so hard to read – and does so with panache. It’s no wonder that people keep coming back here; the fish filets are fresh and generous while the meat cuts and sauces are delicious. Daily specials are chalked up for all to see and the staff speaks reasonably good English. Not cheap, but well worth a try.

Opening Hours: 08:00 – 23:00
Location: North La On, opposite Dr. Chusak Clinic, next to Sea Dragon Dive Centre
Cuisine: German/British/Thai
Viking Steakhouse & Pizzeria

Viking Steakhouse & Pizzeria

Viking has a pretty good reputation in La On. It handles a lot of hungry Scandis daily and has a free salad bar, cosy interior and a large terrace. Maybe not so much a fine-dining experience as a communal tuck-in, occasionally the place gets too crowded to guarantee good service. Still, for a western food experience with large portions, Viking delivers. You may have to reserve in advance or dine earlier to get a table.

Opening Hours: 09:00 – 23:00
Location: Central La On
Tel: 076 420 815
Cuisine: Scandinavian/Thai/International
Yuppadee Seafood

Yuppadee Seafood

A very busy place using an unsurprising combination of Thai seafood and European dishes but diners vote with their wallets and Yuppadee, in spite of its funny-sounding Disneyesque name, is a winner. With large wooden furniture and a menu perusable from the pavement, bright lights and a bustling atmosphere, Yuppadee is one of La On’s busier places.

Opening Hours: 12:00 – 23:00
Location: Central La On
Cuisine: Seafood/European
