Khao Lak Temples

Padungthomphotiwa Temple

Padungthomphotiwa Temple

Thai temples not only serve as places of worship but as community centres as well and Padungthomphotiwa Temple is no exception. Fairly new, this temple near the beach features a large golden sitting Buddha, gold-foil covered spheres and an elaborate archway at its entrance. This is a quiet spot, ideal for contemplation.

Opening Hours: Dawn – dusk
Location: Off Highway 4, Bang Niang
Komniyoket Temple

Komniyoket Temple

For visitors who have never seen a Thai Buddhist temple before, Bang Niang’s Komniyoket Temple may appear outright bizarre. Its grounds contain painted concrete giraffes, deer, tigers, oversized tribal people, roosters, tortoises and a whole lot more – ostensibly to protect the property. The temple also features a community hall, large grounds and a place of worship. Please dress accordingly with no revealing garments or beachwear and remove shoes if entering the temple itself.

Opening Hours: Dawn – dusk
